The Magic Panel HD is the high resolution version of the Magic Panel, the small RGB matrix that sits behind the dome panel of the same name and produces animated light effects.
The classic Magic Panel has 8 x 8 pixels, 64 LEDs. The HD has 8 x 13 pixels, 104 LEDs. The extra rows are what make the difference in practice: patterns that would be a coarse blur on an 8×8 grid stay readable, and scrolling shapes have room to actually travel rather than jump from edge to edge.
It is one of the wireless modules and never sits on the CAN bus – it reaches the droid through the AstroCan X Bridge, which means no signal cable has to run up into the dome for it. In the browser interface it shows up as a dome module and is fully steerable from there, exactly like the wired boards.
The classic Magic Panel 32 remains compatible and can be used instead.
Not just AstroCan X: this board also works with other systems, and a standalone firmware sketch is available.
